Dear Violet girls,
I am need of some style advise for my wedding party attire and thought you might be able to provide some suggestions???
I don’t like the matchy-matchy look – I am wearing a champagne dress, and the bridesmaids are going to wear different shades of neutral (ie. one in nude, one in ivory, another in champagne). My fiance’s suit is light gray with taupe pinstripes, with a silver vest and tie.
Here are my main questions:
1) can the groomsmen wear any shade of gray, and can I tell them to wear whatever shirt/gray tie combo they want? Would different grays look too unorganized?
2) can the bridesmaids accessorize however they want without it looking cluttery?
3) can the ring-bearer (our cute 9 month old) wear any gray or beige pattern? (or is this too many colour palettes going on?)
4) My dress is a sweetheart neck, trumpet bodice with a dramatic bow below the knee. Is it too much if I wear a statement piece in my hair and a showy necklace? Or do you think some colour would be better, maybe in the form of yellow shoes or a patterned shawl? Or would it maybe all work? I am kind of quirky!
I am hopelessly in need of your expertise!
Thanks,
Quirky Bride

Dear Quirky Bride,
We love the idea of having a wedding where not everything in matchy -matchy!
a) for a more casual affair, dress the guys in a blazer or sports coat instead of a full suit. Match one element in their outfit, (a pocket square, tie/bow tie, vest or shoes) to your overall scheme and keep one other element such as their shirt all the same colour – we like white for an easy and always classic look.

a) keep to the same principle as above. But a good rule would be to keep all jewelry minimal or be extra safe and give each bridesmaid a necklace, earrings or bracelet that you’ve chosen as their favor.

a) the ring-bearer should dress in a similar style to the groomsmen, but any grey vest/blazer will be adorable!

a) a good rule of thumb is the same one that goes for make-up, choose one element to feature and keep everything else understated. We love the idea of wearing a bright shoe and there are so many great hair accessories out there that are so fun. If you decide to go for both hair and necklace, make one of them the stand out peice and keep the other in the background.

Hope that helps, and congratulations!
